Dear You

Dear friend, follower, stalker or online trekker, I'm writing this little open letter because I have noticed an interesting pattern on Twitter. When I don't tweet at all I gain a bunch of new followers. And then the more tweet (and it's really not that much compared to some) the more followers I lose. I usually don't know who they are. I use a Twitter client which shows only the number of followers, but not the names and I've set so that I won't get notices when someone starts to follow me. First of all I tweeted about this and someone answered me they rarely follow anyone who tweets m...

Scanner Not-So-Darkly

Guess who got a scanner! Above are some of the fruits of my pretty plastic film camera, Diana. If you are a Diana puritan and believe only the originals are the real deals, you might want to look away now. My camera is a new production, from Lomography. More about the camera and the scanner (CanoScan 9000F) later! Meanwhile, rest your eyes on these. The first one is a stream, the second one a double exposure of Aleksanterinkatu here in Helsinki.

Introduction to Second Life

In short Second Life (or SL) could be described as a three dimensional virtual world, an interactive multimedia platform and online community *. It is not a game per se, but it includes game-like elements, which can be utilized on gaming. Honestly, you are rude

Reading forums, some blogs, social media services like Twitter and comments on blogs can be pretty painful. Often there is at least one rude all knowing a-hole, who wants to ruin it for everyone else. Now please note I'm not saying it's wrong to know a lot about a lot. I'm just saying being rude is less than okay. Often these rude all knowing a-holes also like to say they are just being honest. A funny thing about these honest ones is they usually can't take it when someone is rude back to them, or if someone is seemingly hurt. And they most definitely can't take constructive criticism. Fr...

About: Flickr

Web is full of photo sites. Some of them are free, some require payment. They all offer different services and ways to use. One of the most popular photo sites is Flickr. It is my personal choice of a photo site and it is where many of the photos and other images seen on this site are available on. In the following I will give a brief introduction to Flickr and using it for marketing. Flickr allows it’s users to post photos, other images and videos to be viewed by other Flickr users, everyone or just selected users. Flickr users can also post comments and notes on photos as well as add the...

CSS for web designers

A couple of years ago I was asked to "code" a website, which layout was designed by someone else. The layout was pretty, but it was clear the designer didn't have a clue on what lies under the hood of a site. Designer hadn't had a single thought for usability and accessibility. Everything, including the text on the little info boxes on the bottom of the page was supposed to be made with images. And the site was designed to be fixed width but also fixed height. It might have worked as a Flash site. Maybe. Fortunately in this case the person who had been asked to code the site was also capable o...

Dream the hallway

Do you ever have the sort of dream you know you are dreaming and can affect the events? The kind of a dream in which you know you can change what's happening and you can make adjustments to where you are and who you are with. Even maybe sometimes change the "actor" in the dream if she or he doesn't look like supposed? I do, sometimes. My dreams tend to be really imaginative, since I do have been blessed with a huge amount of imagination. So last night my feverish mind created a story, in which I knew I was dreaming. \ It was a long dream with a rather interesting story. Or maybe I should say...
