CSS boring
Am I imagining or are most of these CSS galleries boring? They seem to showcase the same style all over and over again. The same style with certain little tweaks. This sort of colorful hipster corporate style, decorated with big slogans, including neatly balanced colors and made special with adding on something seemingly "fun" and "imaginative". Or are the designers boring?
50 things
To celebrate my 30th birthday today I have collected here 50 more or less random things about myself. No, this is not my original idea. This is one of those memes you see in time to time on blogs and Facebook. This time I was inspired by 50 things list on a blog called oh, hello friend. You may know some of the things I've listed her or maybe most of them. Or none. \ I love seas and oceans. I love sunny and colorful autumn days. I love cats. I'm afraid of big dogs. A schoolmate thought a birthmark I have was a huge bruise. Some people like to tell me I'...
Eight types of self promotion
Self promotion, or rather self marketing is like art: It's harder to accomplish than it seems, it's often misunderstood and many of us would like to be good at it (but may not admit it). Obviously most use different approaches in different situations. Often the different approaches are mixed with each other. If you want to take a quick look around self marketing, I suggest checking out Twitter and how it's users are doing it. In following I have listed and shortly described eight types of self marketing. There are more, I'm sure, but these are the ones I've mostly seen used. The approaches...
The most important word
Someone had asked on Quora for the most important word on the Internet. At first I thought this is a silly question. Then I thought it again and read through what others had answered. The selection was quite wide. Some said it's networking and someone even went for LOL. But I thought the answer should be clear: Communication Communication is what the Internet basically is all about. Communicating with someone or something. Communicating with faceless and nameless unknown, maybe the whole world. Communicating with known, such as friends, family members, colleagues... The technology...
The little difference
There has been quite a lot of complains about how the amount of comments on blogs has been reduced. That the amount of readers, according to the stats, has stayed as much or even grown, but the amount of comments has slowly or pretty fast been reduced. I had a blog sometime during the years 2003-2006. Well, I did have some sort of webjournalish thingies before that, but those were the years I actually had an active blog with commenting and all. That blog did receive a quite steady amount of comments. Not a lot, but some, here and there. The difference between that and Tomato Branch is clear....
Out of the office
Today there shouldn't be need for offices. At least not need for going to the office every day. We could work from home. Some of us do. Many still don't. Of course there are jobs that require being in a certain place at the certain time. Like nurses and firemen. But us who aren't nurses or firemen, those of us who do most of our grande work hunched before the bright light of the screen, shouldn't need to go to the office. Basically, in my opinion, it comes down to a couple of things: Habits and needs that have nothing to do with the real creativity. Many people need to get out of their homes...
The Social Network
The concept of The Social Network is simple. A girl breaks up with an extremely smart boy. The heartbroken boy seeks revenge on women and creates a website for rating the Harvard undergraduate girls. The website itself doesn't last for many reasons, but it spawns something else, a service now known as Facebook. First and foremost it is not a documentary but a fictional story only based on real events and real people. (The following includes spoilers, if that's even possible in this case.) \ Now I must say I really really enjoyed The Social Network. The dialogue is witty and interesting....
