Stuck? Get something, anything done!
I have this new project. I cannot tell you about it, but I can tell you right now it seems like a cool thing. And lots of work. The project includes me designing the look for the website. There has been some ideas and hopes for the layout, nothing final. At first I was being very loyal to the first drafts. That wasn't working at all. It looked bad whatever I did. I was so stuck. Then I got an idea. Very different than the original ideas. All of a sudden I was on a roll. The big picture was working and the little details started to find their places. There's a good chance this...
Commenting on other blogs isn't about SEO
Recently I read on a newsletter about how you should stop commenting on other blogs for SEO. That's because the search engines aren't that much paying attention on comment links and half of the time they have rel="nofollow" added to them. That nofollow-thing tells the search bots to ignore and not to follow the link. Besides it's lots of work to comment on other blogs. And half the time the comments are more or less ignored by the blog owners. That's actually correct. All of it. The links on comments on other blogs aren't helping much with your SEO. Commenting on popular blogs is also fu...
Twitter Tuesday: How to download your Twitter archive
Twitter is very slowly rolling out the option to download and archive of all the Tweets you've made since signing up. Okay so first of all it appears that newer accounts on Twitter are getting their archives available sooner than oldies. At least for me my much newer and less used accounts (active since 2009 and 2011) have the archives already, whereas my main account (active since summer of 2008) hasn't got it yet. Here's what you need to do to get your archive: You must be logged in to Twitter. Go to your account Settings and scroll down the page. If your archive has been made avai...
Hot Font #11: Buda
Let's take a look on a pretty Hot Font. It's called Buda, named after and inspired by the city of Budapest. Buda is an attractive and fragile typeface. It can be used for longer blocks of texts as well as headers and such. Very suitable for digital as well as print use. Created by Adèle Antignac Buda is (as the Hot Fonts are) free and licensed under SIL Open Font License (OFL). Buda on Google Web Fonts.
Find missing emails from your (Gmail) spam box
Have you noticed how sometimes the emails just don't arrive? You wait for one and it never comes. In my work I've stumbled to situations where the email form on a website doesn't appear to work. The emails don't come through. And the panic ensues. It's spam, it's spam! The problem usually is that the recipient's email client pushes the emails they receive, especially through web forms, straight to the spam box. It's not a place where all realize to check the missing stuff. Especially I've noticed that Gmail has been pretty crazy with marking content as spam lately. I've got work emails...
Dear Summer
Dear Summer, Last year you were on a bad mood mostly and things didn't go too well. But when it didn't rain I used to go for a run and it was all fun. Unfortunately your sister Winter has been gloomy, cold and kind of sarcastic. Yes, I as many others asked for some snow, since it was so dark and depressing without it. But then she decided to throw in all the snow possible. And more is coming as I write this. Anyways. I miss you, even though you tend to be moody nowadays. I wish we see soon. Yours truly, Mervi
Twitter Tuesday: 3 great Twitter qualities
There are many posts titled such as "5 bad Twitter habits" or "5 common business and marketing mistakes" and I decided to do something different this time. Here's a list of a couple of great qualities of someone actively using Twitter. I think three is a nice number, as it worked for the reasons for using Twitter too. Generosity - It's easy to be generous on Twitter. ReTweeting, @mentioning and @replying are the obvious (and working) choices. You can share your knowledge, give ideas and help out. To be truly generous you must give credit when credit is due, thank for ReTweets an...
