Get more likes on Instagram
I don't have that many followers on Instagram. Not a popular kid around there, you know. So up until lately my photos have received quite a little buzz if any. Up until lately, when I started to do a couple of new things. The following tips are based on my own experiences. Oh and if you are interested to see my photos, just follow me. See you around! Use hashtags Like on Twitter and then some, you can use hashtags on Instagram. Hashtags such as #food or #cameras. Use popular hashtags (see what other's use). Be sure your image actually fits the tag so you won't be seen as a spammer. B...
Twitter Tuesday: My story
Since I've been doing these Twitter Tuesdays for eleven weeks now (that's over two months!) I decided it's time to tell what's my story and approach on Tweeting. I joined Twitter four years ago, in June 2008. Back then it was still sort of an upcoming service. There were quite little active users (compared to now) and the celebrities hadn't taken it over yet. Back then teens didn't write Tweets at all. When I joined the world of microbloggin Jaiku was still kind of thriving. It had potential and it was extremely popular amongst tech folks and especially my fellow Finns. I never really li...
Creating success: The Alchemist formula
I hadn't read The Alchemist before cause I was kind of put off by all the hype. Especially I was put off by all the "this changed my life" kind of talks about the book. Sounded like a cult. The quote by Madonna on some of the covers of the Finnish translation didn't help much. On the other hand I got more and more curious. So many so different sort of people were talking about the book and citing it. Even some of those I had never seen as cult and hype loving types. Besides the whole thing about Paulo Coelho's enthusiasm for social media has made him interesting to me. Yesterday I finall...
Twitter Tuesday: Mind your (bio) language
Recently I noticed something funny about Finnish users' Twitter bios. Bio is that short, less than 160 characters long description on a Twitter profile. The thing I noticed about the Finns' bios was they often had a description on English, while they were tweeting (mostly) in Finnish. It doesn't seem like biggie, but actually the bio is kind of a business card of a Twitter user. Or a handshake. A good bio isn't just a description of the person, but it also tells what to expect from their Tweets. If a person writes on their bio they are a social media something, I expect them t...
I'm boring
I'm boring. There's no much to say about that. I mean, I can be funny and somewhat interesting in times. But most of the time I'm boring. And you know what? There's nothing wrong about being boring. No, this is no sarcasm. This is no irony. I'm not trying to be funny here. I'm all serious. Being boring is rather easy. You don't have to come up with something exiting and interesting to say or do. Just do the usual stuff you do every day. Have a run, take a shower, have a breakfast, do the job, have a lunch, work more and so forth. That's so brilliantly boring. I doubt anyone can be funny,...
Social media: Share fast, check facts later (maybe)
Everyone wants to be first. First to share information, first to break news. First to this, first to that. To be first you must also be fast(est). The competition on being fast leads to the point where anything is shared before checking the facts. Most often it's hilarious, but as with any erroneous information, things can get ugly too. Rumors can be hurtful. Everyone who uses Twitter knows about the false death news. If a person is famous enough they will be announced to be dead at some point. Sometimes when the celebrity then actually dies there are people saying that's most likel...
Twitter Tuesday: Social or spammy?
I've noticed an annoying trend on Twitter: Tweeting lists of other people's Twitter handles. Sometimes they are Follow Friday -lists, sometimes just Tweets saying "Good morning" or "Thanks" and then the list of the handles. I understand the point of these lists is to be social and perhaps generous. "Hey, I'm a nice dude to follow, I will @mention you in time to time and my followers may start to follow you as well." The goal is (somewhat) good, but the execution is lazy. False generosity. Those @mentions aren't likely to stir interest. They seem spammy. Meaningless noise, filling th...
