Things to do with your email newsletter
You have put up an email newsletter. Perhaps with MailChimp (my choice), MadMimi or maybe Aweber. You've got the subscription form on your site and a couple of subscribers on the list already. So, what to do with it? The lazy way is to just inform the subscribers when your blog has been updated. Oh yeah. Great way to get people bored, stop paying attention to your emails and to unsubscribe. They most likely get the updates from other ways, such as subscribing to your RSS feed, liking your page on Facebook or following you on Twitter. What you need to do is to make your list members ...
Twitter Tuesday: Real ways to get ReTweeted
One of the things at least most Twitter users hope is to get their Tweets shared along, ReTweeted. Especially when you are promoting something (your blog, your work etc.), you are counting every ReTweet. There's lots of tips and tricks to how to get ReTweeted out there. Most of them don't really work. For instance as I previously wrote, "Want to be ReTweeted? Be ReTweetable!" is an useless piece of advice. It doesn't mean a thing. Often you are also told to ask for ReTweets. That works with some Twitter users, but may also upset and repel many. So be careful with that. Make your ...
Is this blog post unique enough?
One of the reasons for a blogger's block is the nagging feeling that everything has already been written. Especially with all the advice out there telling you to be unique. The advice is kinda okay, but it's mostly misleading. When that blogger's block - or blogger's anxiety - hits, a bunch of depressing thoughts come to mind. Someone else has already wrote about this. Why would your writing be any better or at least as interesting? Do you have anything new to say about this subject? Is it worth the effort? Will anyone read it? Is it unique? The unpleasant truth is most of bloggers don't a...
High heels and other ways to boost your confidence
Confidence, I believe, isn't something you are born with. It's something you learn, and something you can work in your life. Here are some very simple ways you can boost your confidence. Appearance No matter what your genes provide you with, you can adjust your appearance. Take a shower, use the right kind of hair products, skin moisturizer and so forth. Get a new haircut. Wear clean and intact clothes. Nicely done make-up helps a lot. Of course the make-up must be done over cleansed skin and overdoing it will make you look like a clown. The best make-up doesn't look too made-up. Some...
Twitter Tuesday: How to get followed back
How often have you followed someone on Twitter and (maybe secretly) hoped them to follow you back? If they are very popular or even a celebrity, your chances of a followback are less likely, but it's not completely impossible. Whether the person is a popular one or not, there are some simple ways to make sure they will notice you. Why you want them to follow you back? Is it just because you want more followers, cause you want to improve your Klout score or because you want your followers/following count to be in a certain balance? Are they providing you with content that's beneficial to you...
Being anonymous
Facebook is infamous of forcing the use of real names. Recently they started to ask people to snitch on their friends for not using real names. Great, isn't it? Online anonymity is a difficult subject. Lots of people are using the possibility of being anonymous in order to do harm to others and to act otherwise badly. Especially those who don't understand the online realms are taking advantage of anonymity and on the other hand are scared about it. For them anonymity is same as lying. The reality is that (forced) usage of real identities has never stopped people from bullying or doing ot...
Twitter Tuesday: How to identify a spammer
In time to time my Twitter followings list gets reduced by one. When I do a little digging around I notice a person who had been big with sharing tons of links, ReTweeting way too often, @mentioning mindlessly for no good reason and abusing hashtags has been suspended for suspicious behavior. Well, no wonder. They weren't really a spammer, but I can see why someone might misread them as one. There's a crazy amount of spammers online these days. Or at least that's how it seems. Blogs are drowning into comment spam and looks like every other new Twitter follower is following for other r...
