Running tips from a slow casual runner

Are you a casual runner? You are likely to have been getting tips from running coaches and pro runners. Good tips, helpful and all. If you are like me, a casual runner, not seriously serious and not for competitions, the tips from pros may discourage you. Firstly I'm not a professional running coach or a marathon girl with years of experience of running. I'm a casual runner, very slow and I take breaks due to winter or just cause I don't feel like it. Here are my quick tips for my fellow casual (and most likely not very fast) runners. The faster runners with their tips mean well, thoug...

How to get rid of spam comments on Instagram

*Update: Instagram has changed it's user interface and architecture drastically since I wrote this spring 2013. See the most recent information at Dealing with Instagram spam.* Spam is a huge problem everywhere online. Including Instagram. To fight spam Instagram is censoring hashtags some more, some less offensive. However their methods are useless and efforts futile and more and more spam comments and spam accounts flood to the service. Many grammers I follow have decided to turn their accounts private to get rid of spam comments. I don't agree with this either and I never just...

Stylebook.fi

A few months back I was contacted by Nina Pitkänen and Viola Riste about a website project. They wanted to create a site for listing, searching and finding Finnish beauty professionals. The idea had born one summer day as the ladies had started to think how much they get questions about finding hairdressers, make-up artists and other beauty makers. They realized there's no one collective website to find them, only scattered blogs, sites and Facebook pages. I was asked to join the team to create a simple to use site for the beauty professionals to easily list themselves and for the consumer...

Why cookies alerts are redundant

Cookies are small pieces of data sent from a website and stored to your browser while you browse a website. They can store information such as when you logged in to a site or the things you wrote on a form. For instance when you comment a blog post on this site your name, website url and email address are stored to a cookie so you won't have to fill them in every time you write a new comment. Cookies cannot carry viruses or install malware to your computer so using them is in that way quite safe. You can also turn the usage of cookies off of your browser, though this will make using many web...

4 things your blog and small business website can't go without

Are you serious about your blogging or do you want your business site to be effective? Do you want new customers or people to come back to your blog again and again? While I have been browsing around blogs and business sites I've noticed that sometimes a couple of very simple things have been forgotten. These things are very essential for making sure your blog readers or potential customers can connect with you. 1. Easy contact This may seem obvious, but I keep seeing lots of blogs and small business sites that lack of an easy way to contact the author/owner. Very often the contact is hi...

Success defined by 5 successful women

A while back I wrote how the definition of success can differ very much depending on who you ask. This made me think how people I think are successful might define it. To find this out I asked a bunch of successful women to give a short definition of what success means for them. Some of the definitions were shorter, some longer. All equally as interesting, thus I didn't feel like cropping or editing them. It was great fun to find out what Laura Simms, Vicky Lashenko, Mayi Carles, Jenny Shih and Monica Crowe think about success. Thank you ladies! Now I'd like you to share their thoughts wit...

The year three

It's been now three years since this blog was launched. As often 3 year olds do, the blog is now able to say it's own name, kick, draw a person with two to four body parts, climb, tell stories and write a bunch of capital letters. In times it gets a bit cranky and often it's rather stubborn. Nowadays there are a couple of thousand visitors here every month, the amount of visits growing slowly. In average visitors see one and a half pages and stick around a minute and a half (lots of halves there). During the past year the amount of visitors has multiplied. Happy! There are now over 1000...
