All the youngest siblings are spoiled

There was an article somewhere. A mother was writing how she used to overprotect her first one. Then, later she had the second kid and she was now an expert. No fuzz. Hey, the kid is eating the hand cream, no big deal. Parents and the oldest kids went on hallelujah and amen. The oldest child always has it the hardest. The youngest, that spoiled brat, has got it all ready and handed to them in a nice package. Sure do. As the youngest of three, born 8 years later than the middle sister, I got it all ready and done: Many of my toys, clothes and other things were my sisters' old. Many of the thi...

The curious case of the sidebar

Sidebars where introduced on websites back in time when we would make layouts with tables or frames. That was in time before anyone knew anything about anything about web. The websites where built with the idea of blocks: Tables with their rows and columns or boxes of frames on the top, middle, bottom, left and right. Currently lots of webby-techy-types are campaigning against sidebars. They want the websites to be cleared off of sidebars altogether. In some cases it makes sense. Often a site doesn't need a sidebar and in many cases it's filled with useless stuff. These webby-techy-types mak...

Silly hobbies

When I was a kid we used to have these sort of friendship books. A person who owned the book would ask their friends to fill in their names and some details, such as favourite foods or music and such. One of the things to fill in was usually hobbies. I would often write down things like reading, writing, drawing. I never felt quite right about it though. Reading, writing and drawing didn't feel as hobbies, but the usual living person stuff like eating or taking a shower. Hobbies are something I've never been really good with. You know, taking part of hobby related lessons and exercising or k...

What to do when blogging stops working for you?

Many of us bloggers hit that same question at some point: Where to go from here? I have asked it, Nadine asked it recently and maybe you are asking it right now. We have other responsibilities and if the blog we are currently running isn't bringing the bread to the table it can be difficult to justify spending time on it. Whether your blog is successful or not things can turn stale pretty fast. Something changes (or nothing changes) and it stops feeling right at all. Did you run out of subjects for new posts? Or did your old subjects just start to feel old and not you in your current s...

The girl and the boy

It’s dark. Some of the streetlights aren’t working and there's no people around. Loud music plays in distance. Only few loud cheers and thrilled screams cut through it. A young woman comes out of a building. She is wearing a blue wig which makes her look like a manga character. Her denim skirt is short and there’s a big hole on her fishnet stockings. She leans on the wall and takes out her phone. While she seems relaxed there’s something wound up about her. Like a cat she is ready to jump away, scratch and hiss. After a while a car parks in front of her. It’s an old beat up rust bucket. In i...

You are not special (and that's really good)

I have had struggles in my life. Struggles I'm willing to talk about publicly and those I'm not. I have had anxiety attacks or panic attacks or what ever you want to call them. I am scared of my own shadow. I'm jumpy, I'm weird and in times I recognise the symptoms of hypochondria (mom's a nurse, go figure). I have often thought I'm the only one with all these problems and no person will understand. Do you know any of these feelings? Do you ever have a lonely party in your mind thinking you are the only one who has gone through some crazy shit or has to survive with awful feelings? It has...

What happened when I didn't comment on Facebook for a week

Do you want to get your blood pressure high? Try reading some comments on Facebook. Especially on public posts of politicians and others alike. Or just the comments some of your Facebook friends write on your posts. Hmm. Maybe I need better friends. Add to it writing your own comment and then someone replying something snarky to it. Oh yeah, it's a vein ready to pop in your head. This is why I decided to make a little test. I like to test people on different social media platforms. If you are my follower, friend or otherwise involved with my social media presence you are likely to take par...
